South Africa is already a very affordable destination if you are travelling on the Euro, Pound or US Dollar and our lower accommodation rates for these ‘off-peak’ months make it even more affordable! We have Luxury, Deluxe and Standard rooms available at different rates and we also offer single rates in our 'off-peak' times. Included in the daily rate is a delicious and generous breakfast. You are also able to utilise the kitchen in the main house or cottage for lunches and dinners, as well as our outdoor braai facilities.

Guests staying with us often say that Somerset West, located in the Cape Winelands near Stellenbosch, is one of the most beautiful places on earth with kilometres of rolling vineyards, picturesque mountains and the sea surrounding the area. Since moving here ten years ago from Johannesburg with our two young daughters, we have been very happy and never take the peace and beauty of the area for granted. Most importantly for your stay with us, Somerset West and nearby Stellenbosch have fantastic golf courses! For example, Erinvale Golf Club, Somerset West Golf Club, Stellenbosch Golf Club, De Zalze Golf Club, Stellenbosch Golf Club, Strand Golf Club and Arabella Golf Club. Cape Town, Paarl and Franschhoek also have lovely golf courses if you’d like to venture a bit further out (see more details below).

Not only this, Somerset West is well situated for you to visit an abundance of world-class wine farms in Somerset West, Stellenbosch and beyond, most of whom house top restaurants at very good prices. Our guests are constantly amazed at the unbelievable quality and affordability of meals they enjoy at these restaurants in our area. Guests can also adventure into nature for a hike or mountain bike ride on many of the trails near us, or stroll along the beach. Cape Town itself is also only a 30-minute drive away, so you can also take in all the attractions that Cape Town has to offer.

We have great weather in March, April, October, November and December!

We regularly accommodate Golfing tour groups at our guesthouse in January and February months, but in our opinion it’s way too hot here in February. As locals, we actually way prefer the above-mentioned months, where the weather is still lovely and hot, but it’s not scorching hot and overcrowded. The chances of getting a golf booking and a restaurant booking also increases from March through to November and specials are often available at restaurants, golf courses, tourist attractions etc in these ‘off-peak’ times.

Our guesthouse is the perfect venue to host your group. It has four stars, is family-operated and the atmosphere is intimate, comfortable, beautiful, safe, secure and accommodating, with ample parking and space to store your golf clubs. Along with this, we are pretty much ‘off-grid’, so we have a borehole supplying fresh water to the guesthouse, and we have a full inverter energy backup system that supplies electricity to the guesthouse in the event of electricity disruptions, so your stay will be comfortable. We also have free wi-fi. We have twelve rooms for single travellers or couples. Eight rooms are situated in the main house and four rooms are situated in the cottage, separated by a lovely big garden and sparkly blue pool. In total, we could host up to 24 players; it’s really nice for the group to take out all the rooms in the guesthouse so that you have the whole house to yourselves and can relax and really make it your own space for the duration of your holiday. When not playing golf, you may like to enjoy the many activities in and around our area. A few examples could include: Visiting our local wine farms in Somerset West: Vergelegen, Lourensford, Morgenster, Cavalli, Pink Valley, Avontuur, Eikendaal. Alternatively, visit any of the hundreds of wine farms in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl for a wine tasting, lunch or dinner! For more info and printable maps of wine farms in the area, you can visit: www.wineroute.co.za. You can also explore the gorgeous old Stellenbosch town a mere fifteen kilometres from our guesthouse. Alternatively, you can take one or two day trips into Cape Town where you can hike or catching the cable car up Table Mountain and explore the many other wonders of Cape Town. Or, you can visit Franschoek and explore the wine farms and picturesque town on the Franschoek Wine Tram tour only an hour away from us. If it’s a stroll along a beach you feel like, Strand Beach and Gordon’s Bay beaches are a ten minutes drive away, and the Helderberg Nature Reserve is five minutes from us. You can also visit the Cheetah Outreach Centre. For a game-viewing adventure, you could venture two hours by car to visit Aquila Game Reserve. We also have Waterstone Village and Somerset Mall close by. Of course, if you just feel like relaxing, you can unwind around the pool area or in one of our gardens or lounges. There are also great health spas in the area. With so much to do away from the golf course, you will not be bored!

Accommodation and special rates

Our family run four-star guesthouse, in the heart of picturesque Somerset West in the Western Cape, has so far provided accommodation for two such Bowls tour groups from the UK. Everyone who stayed with us and participated in the Bowls tournament – arranged privately with various Bowls clubs in the area - absolutely loved it. So much so that they came back a second time!. Our guesthouse is the perfect venue to host your group; intimate, comfortable, beautiful, safe, secure and accommodating. Along with this, we are pretty much ‘off-grid’. We have a borehole supplying fresh water to the guesthouse, and we have a full inverter energy backup system that supplies electricity to the guesthouse in the event of electricity disruptions, so your stay will be comfortable. Additionally, have free wi-fi.

There are twelve rooms for single travellers or couples. Eight rooms are situated in the main house and four rooms are situated in the cottage, separated by a lovely big garden and sparkly blue pool. In total, we are able to host up to 24 people. It is ideal for the group to take out all the rooms in the guesthouse so that you have the whole property to yourselves and can really make it your own space for the duration of your holiday. We have a combination of Luxury, Deluxe and Standard rooms available.

We can also offer you great rates from April through to end December (our off-peak period). The luxury, deluxe and standard rooms are slightly different rates. We also offer single rates. Included in the prices is a delicious and generous breakfast prepared by our lovely staff. Your group is also able to utilise the kitchen area in the main house or the kitchenette in the Cottage as well as the outdoor braai area to prepare in-house meals.

Lovely weather in March, April, October, November and December!

Contrary to popular belief, some of the best months to travel to our area is in March, April, October, November and December! As locals, we find January and February to be too hot, so we actually prefer these other months, where it is still very warm and lovely outside but not overwhelmingly so. The very rainy months are usually June, July and August, so probably advisable to avoid those months.

The Bowls clubs in our area are so friendly and welcome games with international groups. Previous Bowls tour organisers have just liaised with our local clubs to organise matches every day, or according to the tour schedule. So much fun was had on these days by all accounts! The clubs in our area include: Somerset West Bowling Club, Helderberg Bowling Club, Stellenbosch Bowling Club, Van der Stel Bowling Club, Strand Bowling Club, Gordon’s Bay Bowling Club:

Somerset West Bowling Club
Overview: Established in 1947, Somerset West Bowling Club is one of the oldest and most respected bowls clubs in the region. It boasts well-maintained greens and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for both beginners and experienced players.
Facilities: The club offers excellent bowling greens, a clubhouse with bar facilities, and social events that foster a sense of community among members.
Activities: Regular club competitions, social bowls, and league matches are held throughout the year, along with coaching sessions for new players.

Helderberg Bowling Club
Overview: Located in the heart of Somerset West, Helderberg Bowling Club is known for its active membership and vibrant social scene. The club prides itself on its well-kept greens and the quality of its events.
Facilities: Members have access to two top-class bowling greens, a clubhouse with a lounge and bar, and ample parking.

There is so much to do in our area and Cape Town when you’re not playing Bowls!

When not playing Bowls, the previous Bowls tour organiser arranged a fantastic activity programme for the group that included things like: Going up Table Mountain, the Franschoek Wine Tram, touring around the Cape Peninsula, frequenting our local wine farms in Somerset West (e.g Vergelegen, Lourensford and Morgenster), as well as others in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl for wine tastings, lunches and dinners. I can assist you with recommendations for my top favourite wine farms and restaurants in the area. The tour group also enjoyed walking along Strand and Gordon’s Bay beaches, and venturing forth exploring other areas of Cape Town and beyond, even taking in a round of golf or two at one of our many local golf courses. Some people also enjoyed hiking in the Helderberg Nature Reserve (5 minutes from us). Others visited the Cheetah Outreach centre. Aquila Game Reserve is also only a 2 hour trip from us if you’d like to view our wildlife in their natural habitat; they do offer day passes. Somerset West also has great places to shop for food if you wish to do your own home cooking (e.g. Woolworths at Waterstone Village). Somerset Mall is close to us for general shopping. Of course, if you just feel like chilling, you can visit one of the wonderful Health Spas in the area, or even just relax around the pool or in one of our garden areas or inside lounges.

Explore the Thrilling Mountain Biking Trails of Somerset West and Stellenbosch

For mountain biking enthusiasts seeking an adrenaline-pumping adventure amidst the scenic landscapes of Somerset West and Stellenbosch in South Africa, a plethora of exhilarating mountain biking trails awaits. Whether you're a seasoned rider or a casual cyclist looking to explore the great outdoors.

Gareth and I enjoy mountain biking and we have ridden many of the trails in and around Somerset West and Stellenbosch. You can also now ride off-road (mostly) from our guesthouse all the way to Stellenbosch as most of the farmers have allowed mountain bike trails to run through their farms - how lucky are we?! Somerset West and Stellenbosch are also home to fantastic mountain bike trails for training for the ABSA CAPE EPIC and other mountain bike races such as the Wine2Wales race held around September / October each year.

Helderberg Farm, Somerset West
- Location: Helderberg Farm, Klein Helderberg Rd, Somerset West
- Trail Highlights: Varied terrain with single tracks, jeep tracks, and technical sections. Stunning views of the Helderberg Mountains and vineyards.
- Difficulty Level: Intermediate to Advanced
- Facilities: Parking, bike wash station, and refreshment facilities available.

Lourensford Mountain Bike Cub
-Location: Lourensford Wine Estate
-Trail Highlights: Over 100km of trails on this farm! Steep climbs, so great for training purposes. Very scenic and beautiful with flowing downhills. This farm is spectacular - you'll not want to miss it. You can buy day passes or pay a membership for a month or year.
-Difficulty Level: Beginner to Advanced
-Facilities: Parking, restaurants, bike shop, bike washing facilities, shower facilities, pump track for kids

Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, Stellenbosch
- Location: Jonkershoek Valley, Stellenbosch
- Trail Highlights: Diverse trails ranging from easy to challenging, including the popular Swartboskloof Trail. Scenic views of waterfalls, forests, and rugged terrain.
- Difficulty Level: Beginner to Advanced
- Facilities: Parking, picnic areas, and restroom facilities within the reserve.

G-Spot Trails, Somerset West
- Location: G-Spot Trails, Sir Lowry's Pass Road, Somerset West
- Trail Highlights: Purpose-built mountain biking trails with various loops catering to different skill levels. Technical descents, berms, and jumps.
- Difficulty Level: Beginner to Advanced
- Facilities: Bike rental, skills park, and café on-site.

Mont Marie Trails, Stellenbosch
- Location: Mont Marie Farm, Blaauwklippen Road, Stellenbosch
- Trail Highlights: Scenic trails through vineyards and fynbos. Varied terrain with climbs, descents, and technical sections.
- Difficulty Level: Intermediate
- Facilities: Parking available at the farm and a restaurant at Mont Marie wine estate

Bottelary Hills Conservancy, Stellenbosch
- Location: Bottelary Hills, Stellenbosch
- Trail Highlights: Extensive network of trails through vineyards and conservation areas. Technical climbs, fast descents, and sweeping views of the Winelands.
- Difficulty Level: Intermediate to Advanced
- Facilities: Various entry points with parking available.

Somerbosch trails
-Location: Somerbosch Wine Estate is also located in Stellenbosch and has lovely trails.
-Trail Highlights: The estate offers mountain biking trails on its grounds that cater for both beginners and intermediary mountain bikers.
- Difficulty Level: Beginner to Intermediary (great if you only have an hour or two)
- Facilities: Parking is available, as well as a great restaurant for coffee, breakfast or lunch afterwards (depending on opening times).

Spier Wine Farm Trails
Location: Spier Wine Farm in the Stellenbosch area has also recently opened a 10, 15 or 20km mountain bike trail on their farm.
-Trail Highlights: The estate offers mountain biking trails on its grounds that caters mostly for beginners and intermediary mountain bikers. The trails are not technical, but good if you want to build in an extra loop from the Somerbosch trails to get some extra mileage in, or if you are a beginner.
- Difficulty Level: Beginner to Intermediary (great if you only have an hour)
- Facilities: Parking is available, as well as a different restaurants for coffee, breakfast or lunch.

The Winelands Mountain Biking club is also a great source of information should you wish to explore more options.

Staying at the Boutique Villa guesthouse in Somerset West would be a great idea for someone - or a group of cyclists - wanting to train for the Absa Cape Epic mountain bike race for several reasons:

Somerset West is situated in close proximity to a variety of mountain biking trails that are ideal for training purposes. The town is surrounded by the Helderberg Mountains, which offer a range of trails catering to different skill levels. Cyclists can find diverse terrain, from challenging climbs to thrilling descents, to help them prepare for the demanding routes of the Absa Cape Epic. Our guesthouse is a mere 2.5km away from legendary Lourensford wine farm, where many an Epic stage race has been held - and home to over 100km of unforgettable trails.

There is safe parking inside the guesthouse and a safe and secure room where you can keep your bicycles and equipment throughout your stay with us - we know how important this is!. The breakfast staff can also accommodate early breakfasts if you would like to hit the trails early, especially for those longer rides. There is a large pool where you are able to swim in the summer or winter to enable your body to recover optimally. There are also great sports massage therapists, physiotherapists and doctors in the area should you require any consultations while you are with ust. If your training schedule is in winter, we have a large and inviting fireplace in the lounge area where you can sit and warm up after a ride, and socialise with your friends in the evenings. We are also a very easygoing guesthouse, so you are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your lunch or evening meals, it's no problem.

Our guesthouse is the perfect venue for an intimate destination wedding weekend for up to 24 guests.

Accommodation: With only twelve rooms - 24 guests - and the entire guesthouse for your wedding party, you are free to enjoy your special occasion just as you want it to be.
